Nailed
is a VERY surprising Independent offering - Low budget horror rarely
possesses the originality and psychological terror found in this
unknown gem.

Can a murderous gang member be a sympathetic horror movie
hero? Yes and no, I suppose. With gang violence and drug culture
commonplace in the United States along with the romanticism of gang
activity in movies and music it is only natural that gang-related
scenarios would seep into horror.
In Nailed two men, Keller and Scott (Charles Porter
and Sam Sarpong) are on their way to a “job”. This
job involves running drugs for a big-time dealer and trading them for
cash in an isolated parking lot in Brooklyn.
The transaction goes wrong for our “heroes” as they
have walked directly into a sting operation which results in one dead
cop, a wounded Scott, and a flight for cover in a boarded-up old house.
This is where the fun begins.
The
house has two occupants; Adam (Wilson Jermaine Heredia) and a
mysterious man confined to a bed and wrapped up like a mummy. Adam
explains that he is the “care-er” and the mummy-boy
is a sick man too far gone for a hospital. Lucky for our heroes Adam is
a sort of nurse that can help with Scott’s gunshot wound.
Soon after arrival at the old house strange things start to happen,
including visions of snakes appearing and disappearing, wounds and
sores appearing on Keller’s body and a strange jerky-moving
woman that is there briefly before vanishing.
Nailed is pretty low budget so there is not a lot of
graphic gore, but that doesn’t stop the film from being
utterly fantastic.
Admittedly, my personal disdain for everything related to gang culture
(only the tragically weak need a gun to feel important) made me a bit
apprehensive about this film when it started out. Psychological scares,
immense creativity and originality, excellent acting and an incredible
story won me over. It also didn’t hurt that our
“heroes” are eventually taught the err of their
ways.
I read a
story that described this movie's humble beginnings
filming in Belfast Ireland that turned into a Brooklyn-based filming
with additional resources once Ben Katz, another young producer, read
the script. I hope that the “Americanization” added
to this film’s production allows for some notoriety and
exposure, because Nailed is a horror movie that
deserves to be seen. Questions
