Ghostbusters 3 Confirmed?
Bill Murray WILL Reprise His Role as Dr. Peter Venkman for Ghostbusters 3!

**Additional Note: After further review it appears that this story is perhaps NOT true. There has been much waffling on the part of Bill Murray regarding this sequel, and he has at different times stated that he will not appear, and that he will. It has also been suggested that his image may be used as a ghost. Any of those outcomes may come to pass, but the interview this story is based on is now believed to be satire and therefore not credible.
After years of conjecture, mystery and apparent refusals, it seems as though Bill Murray has officially signed up to be a part of the third Ghostbusters film. It’s amazing knowing that we’ll even see this picture brought to light. Now knowing that Murray, the man many would deem the heart and soul of the Ghostbusters franchise, has agreed to appear in the film is outright mind boggling. Somehow, someway, today we can definitively say that Ghostbusters 3 could actually live up to the long brewing hype.
Murray’s spoken quite a bit about the project in recent months, always seemingly on the fence, and leaning in an unfavorable direction. However, a recent phone call to Harold Ramis (Dr. Egon Spengler) helped put all the mystery to bed. “It was kind of crazy,” Ramis said. “Just out of nowhere, I get a phone call from Bill at almost three in the morning on Thursday and he simply said, ‘Yeah, ok, I’m in’. That’s Bill Murray for you. Surprising and straight to the point.” Ramis elaborated a bit on precisely what influenced Murray to take the role, noting, “Bill also said a major factor in his decision to do the movie had been all the support he received from fans during his 29 city ‘Party Crashing Tour‘ earlier this year.”
Paul Horner and Etan Cohen are the two responsible for the Ghostbusters 3 script, and we could speculate on the details, given the wealth of rumors to surface, but that’s irrelevant, for the time being. What is relevant is the fact that Bill’s in, and Horner himself expressed his own excitement about Murray’s involvement. “Word through the grapevine was that Murray enjoyed reading our script that was passed along to him a few months ago. As for if he was going to be a part of it, well that was the million-dollar question. The writers, the cast, the fans… everyone is truly excited for this to have finally all come together.”
Ivan Reitman, who produced and directed the first two Ghostbusters flicks will return to helm the third installment. At this point, it looks as though the entire original cast of Ghostbusters (Murray, Ramis, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson) will return. Sigourney Weaver is also said to be returning to the world of the paranormal, and word has it that Rick Moranis may appear in the film (his first foray into the camera world since 2006) to reprise his role as Louis Tully. There’s been no confirmation one way or another, but Ashton Kutcher, Seth Rogen and Vincent Kartheiser are all names being thrown about as potential players in the latest franchise feature.
Shooting for Ghostbusters 3 is rumored to begin in Fall of 2013.
