Riddick Gets an R Rating, Arrives in 2013
David Twohy will return to direct the third film in the Pitch Black franchise. In fact, Twohy has been the man in full control from the jump: he also wrote all three films (Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick, and now Riddick). Of course Vin Diesel again surfaces as the titular character (kind of a must) and Karl Urban will also reprise his role as Vaako. Things look good for the new film.
For fans, things are about to become a lot more alluring. We’ve got an official release date for the film: Sept 6, 2013. Yes, we’re aware that’s still quite a few months out, but if you’ve been able to tolerate all the frustrating teasers Vin has released via his Facebook page over the last half year or so, you should be able to hang tight for another nine months.
The film has officially been branded the dreaded R-rating, but given Riddick’s following (the first two combined have raked in more than $150 million worldwide), that may not slow ticket sales too much.
In addition to Diesel and Urban, Dave Bautista (The Man with the Iron Fists), Katee Sackhoff (Halloween: Resurrection), Nolan Gerard Funk (Deadgirl), Bokeem Woodbine (Devil), Raoul Trujillo (Cowboys & Aliens) and Keri Hilson (Easy A) also star.
Synopsis: “Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy. The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.”
