Old Woman Behind Sheet in Basement with Knife

by Brian
(Hawaii, USA)

I was a little kid (circa mid-70's) when my parents brought me along to a drive-in horror movie.

The film takes place in a big house on the coast. In the middle of the night, a woman is drawn to her basement. She goes down the stairs barefoot in a gown with a candle or flashlight.

She looks around but hanging sheets divide the part we can see from the rest of the basement. The woman looks around the sheet, and an old woman is there holding a butcher knife. I don't remember how the scene plays out, but the old lady was very spooky.

In another scene, the girl is walking on the gloomy grounds and someone is following her.

Does anyone know this film?

'The Silent Scream'
by: b

I'm going to agree it's The Silent Scream because I would have been six, we saw it in a drive-thru and the other film looks to busy. This was very pared down and eerie. Basement seems a little too crazy; this was more of a classic horror movie from what I remember. Plus the feet going down the stairs is very familiar. I'll have to watch it and see what I can remember.

You might have nailed it

This would have been released at the right time, and I think the stairway looks familiar. I'd have to say this is probably it...good catch! Maybe I can Netflix it.

Could be...'The Silent Scream (1980)
by: Anonymous

Four college kids renting rooms in an old house near the shore. The landlady and her son are quite odd. You can catch the original trailer on Youtube. When you discover what movie you were actually looking for, please post it. I'm curious to find out which movie this is. Good luck!

Sounds a bit jumbled but..

Very similar to the ending of Suspiria. Sheets, old woman behind them, woman with butcher knife, covered in blood.
