One Missed Call (2008) Horror Movie Review

One Missed Call misses the mark! Bloody Thumbs Down!

One Missed Call is a disaster of a film, with one monotonous death after another, offering little to entertain us but a bit of suspense.

One Missed Call (2008) Horror Movie Poster

Release: January 4, 2008
Directed by: Eric Valette
Written by: Yasushi Akimoto (novel "Chakushin ari") and Miwako Daira (screenplay)

Starring:
Shannyn Sossamon
as Beth Raymond
Edward Burns as Jack Andrews
Ana Claudia Talancón as Taylor Anthony
Ray Wise as Ted Summers
Azura Skye as Leann Cole

Our story begins with a young girl hearing and seeing strange things and then being pulled underwater to her death, along with her cat, in her backyard pond. A few days later her friend Leann mysteriously receives a call from her – one missed call actually – and when she checks the voicemail it is the sound of Leann herself meeting her own fateful death. As you may have guessed Leann soon bites the dust in the same manner as heard on the call.

Repeat this half a dozen times and you have our movie.

But let’s go back. Enter Beth who after witnessing a few friends’ deaths by cell phone message enlists the help of the only law enforcement agent who believes her, Detective Jack Andrews. Jack’s own sister had died in a mysterious way. So the two begin their race against time to find the killer before their own phones’ show the message: One Missed Call.

One Missed Call (2008) Evil Figure Behind

The only worthwhile thing about One Missed Call is its suspense, the operative word being only. I can honestly say I was bored watching it and I am pretty easily and enjoyably frightened. And here’s a hint: When you hear your own last words on a voicemail try not to utter them in real life, at least not in the next few days.

One Missed Call stinks. Don’t waste your time.

Seen it before

A while back I rented this movie and absolutely loved it! I gotta say, it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I didn't want to answer my phone for the rest of the night haha. All in all, my advice to you guys - watch it! You won't be wasting your time!

Totally agreed with the writer
by: Babyhoney

It does stink due to the fact it was a total remake! I watched the Japanese one ages ago, and it was really freaky. But this remake ... pffttt... no remark!

Dont forget the Technical
by: VYoung

I was one of the unfortunate ones to see One Missed Call.. I only went because I am a big fan of the original. Aside from it being an obviously bad remake. Didnt anyone else notice that the overhead boom mike was in just about every scene.. I saw it so much it got to be funny. Also some of the camera angles, specially the close ups were off target.. how in world in this day and age of editing, can they possibly let a movie of such low quality in the filming itself, hit the theaters

Disapointed!
by: Lauratheaxewieldingmaniac

Ive actually been pretty excited to see this movie! I'm so disappointed to hear that it sucked! I figured it would be um...whats the word...a little cheesy and cliche but it still liked pretty freaky.

Ill pretty end up just waiting till it comes out on dvd either way...not alot of time to go to the movies these days:( Plus, can you believe, almost all of my friends wouldn't go see a horror movie w/ me for free! craziness!

Keep up the reviews!
Cheers!
