Other Great Scary Movie Moments!

5. The ball dropping down the stairs and the wheelchair appearing at the top of the stairs in THE CHANGELING. This movie is vastly underrated, and it's in my top 25. Creepy movie, and one of the best at using silence and atmosphere to drive the psychological horror.

4. Another George C. Scott moment, this one from EXORCIST III. When he's in that hospital corridor, and that demonic nurse/hellhound floats through the frame behind him. Sheeeesh -- gettin' chills just typin' this.

3. How 'bout the scene in HALLOWEEN just after the aforementioned closet scene. You know... she's restfully leaning against the doorframe... thinks he's dead behind her. THEN! We see him prop up and turn toward her in the background. This idea and composition have been copied ad nauseum since (including with one of those creepy Klowns in KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE!)

2. The scene in THE OMEN when Gregory Peck frantically searches his kid's scalp as he sleeps... and there... branded... in disbelief... world now upside-down... the numbers 666. Holy crap, that's creepy.

1. Well there are so many more... the very end of the BLAIR WITCH PROJECT (yes, I 'got' it)... The end of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, which made me queasy with disgust... The infamous John Hurt/alien in the gut scene in ALIEN...

Just to name a very few.
