Top 100 Horror movies – January 2007
Rating Methodology and Criteria.


New for 2007, BHM employed a (psudo) scientific rating methodology to create the Top 100 Horror Movie list.  First a master horror movie list was created, composed of elements of the 100 Best Horror Movies List from January 2006, nominations from Best-Horror-Movies.com site visitors and surveys of BHM contributors. Nominations were collected from approximately 45 sources.

The list was then shortened by removing elements from the 2006 list that were not “100 best caliber”, based on feedback from BHM site visitors. The remaining list of 107 horror movies was then rated on a scale of 1-10 in the following categories:

• Originality

• Impact (i.e. awards, sequels, notoriety, revitalizing horror, etc.)

• Scares

• Visuals (i.e. gore, location, cinematography, effects, etc.)

• Story

• Favorite (subjective response of judge, 10 being an all-time favorite)

• Script

A total of 14 judges participated in the final rating process. In this rating methodology average scores were rounded to the closest whole number in each category.

In the event of scoring ties the categories were weighted in the order listed above. For example, when two movies had a total score of 45 then the one with the highest Originality score was rated higher – if the originality scores were the same then the movie with the highest impact score would get the call…and on down the list.
