Se7en (alternate title Seven) is simply a fantastic movie. I have never heard anyone say they did not enjoy this film, regardless of their opinion of the horror genre. Not just horror and gore, Se7en has successfully crossed over into the more mainstream Suspense/Thriller category and has had quite a bit of box office success.

Before Se7en, director David Fincher was mostly known for his directing of music videos and Alien 3. Se7en was the movie that opened many options for him including Panic Room, Fight Club and Zodiac. I would guess that without his awesome work on here he would not have the success that he enjoys today.

Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman and Gwyneth Paltrow all do a great job in this one, especially Pitt and Freeman, and all three added “star powerSe7en (Seven, 1995) - Gluttony” and box office success. This highlights one thing that some horror movie creators need to learn; although there may be a great plot and effects, lessSe7en (Seven, 1995) - Sloth than talented actors in a film can kill it. My favorites are films that feature no-name actors who turn in big performances, such as Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween.

Se7en is the story of two detectives, Mills (Brad Pitt) and Somerset (Freeman), who couldn’t be more different - Mills is young and impulsive while Somerset is conservative and “by the book” – searching for a mysterious serial killer who plans his murders based on the Seven Deadly Sins (Gluttony, Greed, Wrath, Sloth, Lust, Envy, and Pride). Pitt and Freeman arrive at the scene of these crimes to find gruesome murders that required elaborate and meticulous planning. Many times horror movies feature victims killed because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, or perhaps because they were drinking and having sex…The murders are committed to teach the world and the victim the err Se7en (Seven, 1995) - Lustof their ways. The killer focuses his efforts on people who indulge too heavily in one of the Deadly Sins and makes them pay the price for it in the form of an extreme and brutal death.

Se7en (Seven, 1995) - Pride I do not want to ruin even one of the murder scenes in this movie because they deserve to be seen without any preconceived notion of what is to come… so I won’t describe them. What I will say is that this movie does an excellent job of pacing the story and working on character development, which combined with the excellent plot and excellent acting performances, make it into a huge hit.

When I look back on grisly movies that appeal to a large audience (that you can safely bring your significant other to see), Se7en is right at the top of the list. This movie is sure to satisfy diehard horror fans and causal moviegoers alike. You like straight up horror? You like well developed stories? You like a movie that has suspense and atmosphere to spare? Look no further than Se7en. It has what you’re looking for. Questions or comments about Se7en? Contact us!
