Sick Nurses has the gory, sadistic, strange and unexpected… but non of these quite suffice as adequate descriptors. In a word, this film is whacked.

Nothing beats a good ghost story. Add a ton of great gore, sexy nurses and a shocking twist and one should have a great ghost story. One should.
The story in Sick Nurses surrounds the staff of an ailing hospital consisting of a bevy of attractive nurses and one strapping doctor. To supplement revenues this particular doctor has decided to sell body parts on the black market… a move which makes him quite a hero in the eyes of hospital administrators. They don’t know WHERE the money is coming from of course, but the fact that the money is indeed coming is enough to prompt parties in his honor and very strange awards ceremonies with confetti falling all around. I didn’t quite get that part, but it happened…

One of the nurses is in love with the doctor, and plans to marry him. She brings her little sister to work at the hospital and the little sister promptly sleeps with the doctor and gets pregnant. The first sister is so distraught by the betrayal that she threatens to turn everyone in for the body-part sales business, so the rest of the nurses gang up and kill her. Now there is a new harvest of body parts to sell, and all is well. Except…
The jilted bride comes back to haunt the hospital and the doctor and nurses, and intends to bring them all to a grisly death. That part is not going well, unless you are the vengeful ghost of a murdered nurse.
As I watched the ending credits roll for Sick Nurses I literally sat on the couch for a while exclaiming “Oh My God!” over and over. This movie is whacked. It started out pretty slow – in fact I was 45 minutes into it before I had any idea whatsoever what was going on. There were nurses, there was a ghost, there were killings, there was dialogue… but later in the movie film makers Laoyont and Siriwiwat used flash backs and imagery to fill in the blanks. I would have liked some explanation a bit sooner in the film so I could follow along, but the goal was to create complete confusion and then miraculously allow all the pieces to come together later. Whatever.
I can’t say much for the acting or character development really, but it was clear to me that Sick Nurses was written for a decidedly non-American audience that isn’t accustomed to having the story spoon fed to them. Well, I’m American and enjoy spoon feeding… but I was able to fend for myself through this one with minimal effort.

The last 20 minutes or so of this film are what leaves you gaping at the screen at the end. Everything happens here – and I mean everything. I’m not going to give this away or anything… but I will say that fans of Sleepaway Camp will still be shocked. And, the final scene is nothing short of stunning – Not “stunning” as in stunning, “stunning” as in “I was completely and speechlessly stunned” to the point of yelling out loud (when I got over the speechless part) and scaring the hell out of my poor dog. Oh My God.

Sick Nurses was intended for those with the dark, ironic, graphic and outlandish taste in horror that Asian films are known for. Not a classic by any stretch, but a definite “yell out loud” flick that gives you plenty of time during the first hour to attend to other things like getting snacks, calling your friend on the phone or refilling your beer glass. Sounds pretty perfect to me. Questions or comments about Sick Nurses? Contact us!
