Sleepaway Camp 3 has the Most Cheese and Creative Kills of Any in the Series

Sleepaway Camp 3 can be much fun if you’re willing to overlook production quality and the fact that none of it makes any sense.

I don’t know what it is about these damn Sleepaway Camp movies that keeps me (and many, many others) coming back again and again. Could it be the deliberate cheesiness/bad acting? The borderline psychotic screenwriting and extremly violent, sadistic deaths? The intense and sick black humor? Maybe all of the above caters to the inner psycho in all of us. Obviously these are not the type of horror movies one can take very seriously, and one would be hard pressed to find someone who does. Still, these goofy, blood-soaked cinematic joyrides have aSleepaway Camp 3 (1989) The ominous proclamation that 'Angela is Back' certain twisted charm that is very entertaining.

Sleepaway Camp 3 is quite possibly my favorite in the series. Why? Still trying to figure it out myself! The cheesy black humor is at its all time peak here as Angela (Pamela " yes she is Bruce’s little sister" Springsteen), the demented mass murderer on the lam, somehow sneaks back into the camp. This time with a group of mixed-class kids, i.e. inner-city and rich kids camping together in an attempt to break down class barriers in some odd social experiment who are going to be camping at the very site of all the murders.

Quick question: Why in the blue hell would anybody think its a good idea to camp at the site of a massive massacre just one year before with the killerSleepaway Camp 3 (1989) - Bad Coke still on the loose? Taking a major page out of the Jason Voorhees dumbass victim’s field guide you think? Anyway, Angela mixes in with the campers, who split up to camp out in the woods. Naturally the self righteous and wise-cracking "Angel Of Death" finds reasons to slowly move through the kids, slaughtering anyone who might offend her for any reason. She accomplishes her dastardly deeds in some pretty sick and awesome ways:

• Firecracker in the mouth of a sleeping teen!

• Running over someone’s head with a lawnmower while they are half buried in the ground!

• Tying guy to a tree with one end of a rope around his arms and the other end attached to a jeep... OUCH! Not as bad as a similar death in the newest Return to Sleepaway Camp that sill has me shuddering, but still…

• Hoisting a blindfolded girl up a flagpole only to drop her right on her noggin!

• Giving someone a cleaning product to snort rather than the cocaine they wanted!

• and the list goes on…

An interesting note about Sleepaway Camp 3 is that nearly all of thecharacters are quiteSleepaway Camp (1989) First Victim in a Trash Heap entertaining, each with their own interesting stories. Not quite the random victims we are used to seeing in these kinds of movies. One of my favorite characters in the whole series is ‘The Token Black Guy’ who violently refuses to turn his boom box down! Guaranteed you will get a kick out of that character.

Our little ‘Angel Of Death’ Angela is one of the greatest and most entertaining horror villains to ever appear on screen. Don’t watch Sleepaway Camp 3 expecting much in the way of story or production value though. Just take in the sheer cheesiness and try not to think too much when you watch it.Sleepaway Camp 3 (1989) - Angela Starts 'The Wave'

If you want to laugh your ass off at a vision of sheet absurdity for a couple hours, or if you are a ‘horror completist’ that must see all in a series, this film is highly, highly recommended. Questions or comments about Sleepaway Camp 3? Discuss it on The Ossuary Forums!
