Some of My Favorites You May Have Missed

I won't bore you with 'the best horror movies ever made' - we've all seen The Exorcist (1973). And I won't ever be convinced that Jaws (1975) and Silence of the Lambs (1991) are horror. So here's an assorted list that I hope you enjoy. Some may not be true horror, but are effective nonetheless. All movies I refer to are the originals.
1. Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971). Great atmospheric ghost story that I've never seen on a Top 100 List.
2. Begotten (1990). Strange movie with disturbing visuals. I felt like I was watching real footage of Satan.
3. Spoorloos (1988). I like scary stories about real people who lead normal lives and show their evil side.
4. Ghost Story (1981). Slower paced, but a good story with visually frightening ghosts
5. Duel (1971). More of a highway suspense movie, but scary because this kind of stuff happens every day.
6. The Stepfather (1987). The stepfather, Terry O'Quinn makes this movie stand out from the rest. Good little domestic slasher film.
7. Phantasm (1979). This movie has become so popular it's hard to still call it a cult classic...but I love it. "Boy!"
8. The Changeling (1980). Good little ghost story - aren't wheelchairs scary?
9. The Dead Zone (1983). Psychological thriller, not horror, but a must see if you haven't already.
10. The Crazies (1973). A bunch of dudes in white suits and gas masks. This one gave me that tingly feeling.
11. The Sentinel (1977). I saw this one so long ago but it still sticks with me as being very creepy and atmospheric.
12. The Tenant (1976). Roman Polanski gives us a great psychological thriller here that is very creepy.
Some newer movies I've liked:
1. The Last Winter (2006). I love horror movies that take place in the arctic. It reminds me of The Thing (1982).
2. Calvaire (2004). This one is a crime-horror and worth checking out.
3. Martyrs (2008). It's not what I expected but definitely creeped me out.
4. Antichrist (2009). Also unexpected, artsy but very chilling.
5. Case 39 (2009). I'm embarrassed to say this one scared me. Forget that it stars Renee Zelwegger.
6. The House of the Devil (2009). Got mixed reviews but I loved this one. It reminded me of Halloween (1978).
7. The Signal (2007). I'm not a big horror comedy guy, but this one had the right ratio.
