Masters of Horror Season 2, Episode 4:
Sounds Like

The Second Season of the Masters of Horror series on Showtime combines top horror writers and directors together for a second year creating some incredible (and some not so incredible) one-hour features. Sounds Like is a great tale of a man slowly going insane. It took two viewings to warm up to it.

Masters of Horror Season 2 Episode 4: Sounds Lilke
Original air date: November 17, 2006
Directed by: Brad Anderson
Written by: Brad Anderson
Short Story by: Michael O’Driscoll

Starring:
Chris Bauer
as Larry Pearce
Laura Margolis as Brenda Pearce

Synopsis: Larry Pearce (Chris Bauer) is a man that has fallen into deep despair. He has lost his child to a heart defect and he simply can’t get over it. He also seems to have an acute sense of hearing. After the death of his son, Larry’s hearing has become even more acute to the point of being able to hear a fly on the wall. This ability, however, is not a blessing. In fact, in Sounds Like, it is a curse that would drive anybody a little mad.

Thoughts: Okay. If you start Sounds Like wanting to see a thrill packed blood fest, you should prepare yourself for a solid let down. Sounds Like is a story that Poe would be proud of. I didn’t like this episode the first time I watched it but the second time (for this review as a matter of fact) I thoroughly enjoyed Sounds Like and my opinion changed about it. Anyone who has previously seen Session 9 should know that Brad Anderson is not the typical horror writer/director. He excels at relaying the reality of mental illness and the affects that the person going mad has on those around him/her. Sounds Like is no exception. The work of Chris Bauer as Larry is also to be commended. I have always enjoyed watching a person slowly lose his mind and Chris Bauer is very believable. There is also a little gore at the end, just because. Sounds Like is worth the watch, in the right mindset. Questions or comments about Sounds Like?  Contact us!
