Imagine Flat Liners crossed with Frankenstein and you will have the scenario for Subject Two. A surprisingly intelligent chiller that seems to have slipped under the radar.
Dr Franklin Vick (a play on the name Victor Frankenstein) contacts Adam, a troubled medical student, after reading his Blogs. He offers what Adam believes to be a job assisting him with his research in a remote snowbound facility in Colorado.
Adam is subsequently murdered on his arrival by Dr. Vick, and then brought back to life. His return is genuinely creepy, helped by the initially non-emotional doctor Vick’s commentary into his dictaphone. When Adam realizes that the headaches that have plagued him have gone, and that he is more aware of ‘life’ around him he is anxious to continue being part of the doctor’s experiments.
Adam is murdered again and again, but although with each resurrection he becomes stronger he also suffers from the most terrible pain within his cell structure. Dr Vick believes he can remove this pain by removing his nervous system, leaving Adam with no feeling at all and the desire to die for real.
Adam is subject two, so what of subject one? A nice little twist at the end and a feeling of ‘sorrow’ for what Adam has become.
I liked it.
