Swedish Vampires?

by Deb

I am a huge horror fan. But I just watched Let The Right One In (2008), touted as 'The Best Vampire Movie Ever.'

Ummm...No!

Maybe I just perfer American horror and should avoid films from countries that have a different spin on the genre.

Thoughts

Deb,
Sorry, I agree with Gordo and Tex. This movie was one of the best films I've seen in a long time, beautifully done and acted, totally original, so many underlying themes. I'm happy to see you noted back to Gordo about the cinematography. While this is not the American movie blueprint (I'm from PA), I believe this is why I loved it so. I told everyone that would listen that this is a pinnacle of movie making and writing for a genre that needed some uplifting. While Twilight has made such hoopla (and I enjoyed it), it's still not the film Let the Right One In. One note for who might watch - USE subtitles, original language and voice, not dubbed (it kills the movie). FYI I enjoy some flash but I love substance under it all. Tip: If you want to try a movie, recycle Mandarin Lang. Always use subtitles, not dubbed. It will make things oddly clearer. It's very deep and I enjoyed like LTROI.

Best vampire film?
by: Gordo!

I actually this believe that Let The Right One In (2008) is very close to being the best vampire film, simply for its dedication to the traditions of the genre, unlike a certain book and movie series that continues to make a mockery of it...I'm looking at you Twilight.

But seriously, can anything beat Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn?

Thank you!
by: Deb

Thank you for your comments! :-)

I actually did enjoy the film - the cinematography was beautiful and it had some really clever touches - but I would classify it closer to a dark fairy tale than a horror film.

Interestingly, Guillermo Del Toro was one of the positive reviews and it reminded me of Pan's Labyrinth in terms of its beauty and its haunting quality.

I am not sure what I would call the best vampire movie ever. Nosferatu was up there - but I also liked James Woods in Vampires so I am all over the map.

Try watching it again...
by: Tex

...this time with an open mind and try not to compare it with other films...it is a wonderful movie with a great story, although I understand it's not for everyone.
