Masters of Horror Season 2, Episode 1: The
Damned Thing
The Second Season of the Masters of
Horror series on Showtime combines top horror writers and
directors together for a second year creating some incredible (and some
not so incredible) one-hour features. The Damned Thing
is fatherhood gone awry.

October 27, 2006 Directed by: Tobe Hooper Written by: Richard Matheson Short Story by: Ambrose Bierce

Synopsis: The sheriff of a small Texas
town, Kevin Reddle (Sean Patrick Flanery), has had a rough life. As a
child Kevin witnessed his father murder his mother and then, while Dad
was coming after him, watched as he was murdered by something. Now the
sherriff is separated from his wife and drowning his depression in
liquor while it seems everyone around him is going crazy, and that same
something that killed his father so many years ago just might be after
him.
Thoughts: Where do I begin? The directing in The
Damned thing was great (to be expected from Tobe Hooper), the
acting was great (I loved Ted Raimi’s character), the special
FX were great (father dying in the beginning –
‘nuff said) and the only thing I was hoping for at the end
was a line that said “…to be continued.”
At the end of The Damned Thing I literally said out
loud, “Is that it?” It was pointless at the most
and senseless at the least. There were so many ways to end The
Damned Thing and they chose one of the wrong ones. After
enjoying Season 1 so much I was really let down by this opening entry
to Season 2.
