When the Lepers say “Six Must Die," by golly they
mean it! The Fog is awesome and Adrienne Barbeau
(playing the sexy nighttime radio hostess Stevie Wayne) rocks the
house. I enjoy every single minute of this one
because it is a really cool and deep flick that gives one pause for
thought, fright and delight all in one viewing.
The Fog opens up with a creepy old sailor guy
telling a bunch of kids around the camp fire a ghost story about a
clipper ship that crashed into the rocks 100 years ago. “It
was a night like this, 100 years ago…” Allegedly,
the captain of the ship steered his crew into the rocks and everyone
died because they really thought they were steering towards the light
house…
As the
plot thickens; so does the fog and it is not long before things begin
to get freaky. Keep track of the time folks… The witching
hour is fast approaching. At the stroke of midnight temperatures will
start dropping and things will start falling off shelves, shattering
and misting up as a hundred year old curse begins to unfold.
There’s nothing like a century old vendetta to get the blood
flowing, and you know what? Time was not kind to these zombie-like
ghosts. They are hideous, green, worm filled, sickle wielding monsters.
They are out for blood and they do not discriminate.
Elizabeth
Solley (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Nick Castle (Tom Atkins) make a great
pair and their romantic interlude is a good historical reminder of when
we lived in a kinder and gentler nation… A time when women
could hitch hike alone at night… When they didn’t
have fear about hopping in bed with a cute guy for a one night stand
… When wearing glasses half the size of your face was all
the rage.
As the
plot
thickens, the reason behind the zombies deadly reign of terror becomes
apparent. A curse was unleashed on the town of Antonio Bay because back
in the day (1880) Father Patrick Malone’s grandfather and 6
co-conspirators did some really shady stuff in the name god, progress
and neighborhood gentrification. “Not in my
backyard” they said. “Hey Hey - Ho Ho - Yuppies Yes
– Lepers No - Hey Hey - Ho Ho - Leper Freaks Just Got to
Go.”
But the
Lepers got the last word, or rather, the last sword. When you watch The
Fog listen closely to the scary voice that comes out of the
jetsam, then look up Mark 9:42. It’ll make you think twice
before giving the shaft to the poor and faithful. Questions or comments about The Fog? Contact us!
