The vampires in The Lost Boys were sexy young rebels.
The Lost Boys brought excitement back to the world of the undead, as well as big hair and 80s fashion.

The decade of the 80’s is one of the best for horror lovers. You
had good, bad, campy, and serious. You had slashers, zombies, ghosts,
and vampires. One notable film entry to 80s horror was a great addition
to the “campy, vampire” genre, The Lost Boys
The Lost Boys starts with a mother, played by Dianne Wiest,
moving her two sons to Santa Carla, CA to live with her father after a
divorce. The two sons are typical for their age. Michael (Jason Patric)
is the older of the two and is the rebellious teen. Sam (Corey Haim) is
the younger and is between the age of comics and girls. The two head
out to the water front looking to see if there is any fun to be had in
their new surroundings.
Michael looks for fun of the female persuasion and finds some that goes
by the name of Star (Jami Gertz). What he doesn’t expect is to
run into a motorcycle gang led by David (Kiefer Sutherland), who is
apparently Star’s boyfriend. They then go on to do what teenage
boys normally do, and the reckless abandon ensues.
Meanwhile, Sam has met two strange brothers at a comic store on the
boardwalk. Alan (Jamison Newlander) and Edgar (Corey Feldman) Frog tell
Sam about the infestation of vampires in Santa Carla. Sam doesn’t
believe them until later when he starts to see changes in Michael. He
then enlists the help of the Frog brothers and they go in search of the
lead vampire in hopes of saving his brother from being a blood sucking
fiend forever.
I love this movie. The Lost Boys is the epitome of the 80’s. Big
hair, loud music, and layers, layers, layers. It had a veritable
cornucopia of 80’s actors that adorned many of the teen magazines
of the day: Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, Alex Winter, Billy Wirth,
and for the pre-pubescent boys, Jami Gertz.
I would also say that this is probably the best paring of Corey and
Corey that ever hit the movie screens. With the follow up classics such
as License to Drive and Dream a Little Dream, it is a wonder we didn’t see more. (Yes, I am being sarcastic. Jeez)
The Lost Boys is also classic Joel Schumacher (director) before he destroyed the Batman series. He does a great job in mixing comedy, blood, guts and vampire horror into a very entertaining movie.
