The Love Cult is Really Terrible
The Love Cult would only likely have appeal for those who are studying film in general and want to see examples of what not to do.

The Love Cult is not worth watching if your goal is to be either scared or entertained. It only loosely fits the genre of horror due to the presence of an unrepentant rapist and murderer, but that’s it. The film opens with a magician and his girlfriend lamenting the fact that their popularity is waning. The male part of the duo is racking his brain to think of another gig to make money. He happens upon a TV show depicting an evangelist preaching the good word, and comes up with the brilliant idea to start a ‘Love Cult’, a church where the ultimate goal is not heaven, but rather the indulgence of earthly pleasures.
He quickly gathers many followers who are eager to join the new and interesting faith. The church has particular appeal to one 1960’s version of�a desperate housewife who offers the guru access to her wealth and county estate. Perhaps Jim Jones took inspiration for the Peoples Temple from this film. The members of the cult attempt to create an alternative society at the country estate.
But alas even the best laid plans sometimes go astray. And there are the inevitable dynamics that arise when couples engage in ‘open’ relationships. Additionally, there is no accounting for the power of testosterone,
especially in the body of a former criminal. The utopian Love Cult quickly crumbles as jealousies arise and a murder takes place. In short, the party’s over!
