The Rotting Dead

Hello Zombie Master;
I am a huge fan of zombie movies, and I am always comparing zombie movies to my personal favorite, the original Night of the Living Dead.
Most movies I've seen start with an outbreak of zombies, and the conclusion of the movie takes place a few days or weeks, maybe even a few months after the outbreak... One thought I can't help but thinking is; if you were able to survive a zombie outbreak, for a long enough period of time, would the living dead rot, and become slower or unable to move, and eventually, after a long period of time, rot away to nothing?

Jim,
You would think that wouldn't you? It is a logical question. Why don't we just try to wait them out? The problem is logistics. When the spread reaches an epidemic level, I find it hard to believe that any one could stock pile enough supplies for the amount of time needed to wait for them to decompose, if that would even happen (no one has kept one around long enough for that to happen so it remains untested). Every time you had to go out to resupply, you would take the risk of not only being seen but also of giving away the location of your hideout. Also, if you read World War Z, you discover that when the zombies are frozen in the winter months up north they just start moving again when thawed.
This is the reason that my strategy has always been to stock pile enough supplies to wait out all of the idiots who think they can tame them or reason with them or whatever. Once they are gone then the only living left will be the ones with the survival skills anyway and we can start taken back our world one head shot at a time.
Good hunting and aim high,
The Zombie Master
