The Second Season of the Masters of Horror series on Showtime combines top horror writers and directors together for a second year creating some incredible (and some not so incredible) one-hour features. The Washingtonians, the twelfth episode of season 2 gives an interesting variation of the history of George Washington.

Synopsis: Everything you ever thought you knew about George Washington was a lie. Apparently, according to The Washingtonians, the father of our country was not a kind and gentle old man but rather a vicious, murderous cannibal that preferred the taste of virgin meat over all others. The problem with this scenario in The Washingtonians is that Mike Franks (Jonathan Schaech) has found proof that this is not revisionist but is actually the truth and there are some folks that will do anything to protect the country from finding out.
Thoughts: I did not like this episode at all. Now, before you start calling me names and canceling your subscription to the “Horror Movie Freaks” e-zine, let me explain myself. I have read Bentley Little’s short story The Washingtonians and was looking forward to the screen adaptation. I have to say that I was disappointed. Some of the things that were used to expand the story were either inconsistent or just down right stupid. The story was not a comedy so the film should not have been. Don’t take my word for it though. Find a copy of The Washingtonians and read it. Only then you will understand. Questions or comments about The Washingtonians? Contact us!
