Threatening Phone Calls Came From the Husband!

Okay Experts - this one is gonna need the wayback machine!

There was a movie written in the same era as Madame X and Dial M for Murder. In it there are a series of phone calls made to a woman threatening to kill her etc. Her husband ends up being the one who was making the call all along and was setting it up to make it look as if someone else wanted to kill her... but it was he all along.

His hope, of course, was that when he finally did kill her the police would be sent off the trail, and he played so concerned and helpful to his wife and the police.

Sounds like a Hitchcock plot to me but can't be sure. HELP!!
