Top 100 Apocalypse Movies?

by Tim Jellig
(Denmark)

Hi. I have been checking out your top 100 greatest horror movies and watched ALOT of them (I'm not in the mood to watch movies from 1930 in black and white though) and I'm already beginning to start looking for new stuff to watch.

The thing is I'm very attracted to movies where the whole world is screwed. A great example would be the newest Dawn Of the Dead, and to be honest I don't want to see a zombie movie if its just inflicting some stupid island with 10 people, or if it's down in some tomb where a inbreed-redneck makes a living by having sex with dead corpses. A movie like Diary of the dead is cool as well, except that the hand held cameras gets a pain in the ass in the long run. But the whole idea of them watching some girl in Tokyo on YouTube crying out "shoot in the head yes", and the whole government is just denying whats happening to the doom of all other countries (mmmmmmmm I fucking love that shit) is just sooooo satisfying.

BUT, since there isn't 100 movies with "zombie-apocalypse" (god dammit Romero) it could be cool if you made one just with apocalypse movies in general. You know demons or pissed off aliens invading the earth would prolly go along as well.

Well I think you get my question now after all... Hopefully I'm not writing too much. Will you do it?

'The Walking Dead'
by: Anonymous

There's a new tv series coming out soon called The Walking Dead based on the Image comic book by Robert Kirkman. Great comic series and everything I've seen for the show looks really good as well.

A few other movies I'm not sure anyone mentioned:

The Book of Eli
The Road
2012
Cloverfield
Dead Snow
La Horde

Enjoy =)

You should check these out...they literally made me want to end the world:

Akira (1988)
- Anime

The Stand (1994)
- Stephen King Movie adaption

The Quiet Earth (1985)
- No Zombies, but if you ever had the feeling of being the last human on earth, you could literally do and be whatever and whoever you wanted. Plus it has a screwed up ending.

9 (2009)
- Just saw this one, it's an animated movie like Toy Story, but it's actually cool. Good action, good plot and the world has already ended.

Try this
by: Izzy

I just recently watched Zombieland and loved it. It was a satisfying mix of drama, romance, horror, gore and comedy.

Also, The Road (2009) was a very good movie. I'd really recommend it. Warning: Tear Jerker.

Night of the Comet (80's end of the world flick...very cool and it has zombies of a sort)

Day After Tomorrow (earth enters a new ice age)

Battle Royale (Japanese movie...not really 'end of the world' but something that might be up your alley)

Diary of the Dead

I Love Sarah Jane (short film available on Itunes)

The Mist

The Omega Man (predecessor to I Am Legend starring Charleton Heston)

Shaun of the Dead (of course...can't miss this one)

They Live

30 Days of Night
Also, get hold of the 5 episode mini-series from BBC called Dead Set...you won't regret it!

Just another Apocalypse junkie...
by: F.S.

I am Legend, Day of the Dead, 28 Days Later, War of the Worlds have already been suggested.

There's also Return of the Living Dead, which is zombie comedy, though watching it as a kid the horror stands out more than the comedy.

Stephen King's The Stand (8-hour TV miniseries) would also fit the apocalypse genre, though no zombies, and less on the horror.

And then there's a flick from the 80's called Miracle Mile. The first third of the movie will bore you, but then the thrill starts after that.

And thinking about it, Terminator 2 had a few moments of apocalyptic horror when they depicted the nuclear holocaust.

I personally can't wait for them to turn Half- Life 2 into a movie.

here is something you may like

Survivors(2008) TV show
a virus wipes out more than 95% of the world and the people who are left are trying to reestablish their life, but there are some really messed up things going on, like the last government official still alive is trying to recreate Law&Order while some sketchy people in bio hazard suits try to create a vaccine by stealing survivors and testing things on them...

I've seen all the ones you just mentioned :). I liked most of them. I think doomsday sucked a bit though. The plot was really not what i expected. But still ok, some sweet kills in it xD
