Top 15 Best New Horror Classics (Post 1990)
by Steve
(Tampa, Florida, USA)
1) Insidious (2011). Shoestring budget horror movie which is becoming a new cult favorite - story, acting, music, and ending all make this movie excellent.
2) Drag Me to Hell (2009). Sam Raimi came back to horror in an excellent way.
3) What Lies Beneath (2000). A new Hitchcockian tale (sorry M Night).
4) Scream (1996). Defines horror in the '90s.
5) The Hills Have Eyes (2006). One scene (the trailer) made this movie great. I actually squirmed in my seat.
6) Saw (2004). Brought torture horror into the vernacular.
7) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003). Way before ever other classic movie was remade, this one actually compliments the original in many ways.
8) The Strangers (2008). Just a simple statement from the villain makes this movie so life like - when Liv Tyler asks them, "why" and Dollface (?) simply states, "because you were home."
9) The Ring (2002). Heard from everyone that it was better than Ringu. This was the first of many Asian remakes.
10) Darkness Falls (2003). The story was just a good story. I wasn't expecting much at first but after watching it a while I really enjoyed it.
11) Black Swan (2010). Shows that horror movies can appeal to more than just the horror "buffs". Has you thinking throughout the whole movie, "is she or isn't she going crazy"?
12) American Psycho (2000). Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman satirizing the '80s and looking damn good in his suits and suspenders.
13) Stigmata (1999). A new and underrated story once again involving the Vatican and questions over God and the Devil.
14) The Unborn (2009). Jewish version of The Exorcist.
15) The Blair Witch Project (1999). You either hate it or love it. I loved it. Especially with all the uncovered footage and back story.
