Top 20 Horror Movies (One Person's Opinion)
20) Misery - This movie wasn't extremely scary and I wasn't completely focused on the movie, but it was the suspense in the movie that kept me from turning it off. I was always wondering what was going to happen next.
19) Along Came a Spider - Although the opening credits ran kinda long, this movie was actually a lot better than I had thought it would be. Politician's daughter got kidnapped by a teacher... Classic storyline put together with an amazing cast and you've got yourself a hit film.
18) Jaws - Jaws was not particularly scary to me. Just the fact of being chased by a shark was what had me add Jaws to this list.
17) Poltergeist - Another that wasn't that scary. I probably didn't think it was that scary because I didn't really believe that there was any way that something could take over your house. I prefer more of the horror of something that could actually happen to you.
16) Candyman - SCARY. I used to play this game all the time with my friends. I'm too terrified to do so now. Not ever since I saw this movie.
15) Anaconda - (Note: Not Anacondas. The original Anaconda) Again... Another movie that wasn't especially scary, but I couldn't stop watching it because I just had to know what happened next. A very suspenseful movie.
14) Dark Water - (Note: Not the Japanese version. The English version) This movie was kinda boring. I just really enjoyed this film because of how well the characters were played by the cast.
13) I Am Legend - This movie was not really part of the horror genre. I think that it could be classified as horror for two reasons. 1: This could really happen someday 2: The infected people.
12) The Eye - (Note: Not the Hong Kong version. The English version) This movie was such a disappointment compared to the trailer. This movie was more confusing than anything. Although there were a few parts of the movie that did make you almost wet your pants, overall the movie didn't live up to expectations.
11) Halloween 2 - This movie was not super scary, but I definitely do not want to watch this alone. Especially at night time. Jamie Lee Curtis did a great job of bringing the character to life, unlike a lot of films where it sounds as if the character is reading from a script. Sequels usually hurt the series, but this helped the series.
10) One Missed Call - (Note: Not the Japanese version, Chakushin Ari. The English version.) Confusing storyline. Ending was not especially thought out. But overall, if you want to be scared, but don't want to have nightmares when you get home, One Missed Call is for you.
9) The Grudge: - (Note: Not the Japanese version, Ju-On: The Grudge. The English version.) Extremely confusing and hard to follow. Unless you have the director's cut, you will have a really hard time trying to figure out what happened. The dead mom looks plastic but this movie is pretty scary.
8) Deep Blue Sea - This is one heck of a scary movie. I personally do not enjoy movies about sharks, but this is one of my all time favorite films. You never know exactly when the shark is going to pop up, and the suspense is one of the key elements of the movie.
7) Scream 3 - Not exactly scary. The ending was kinda lame, but Scream 3 did have a few scares in it.
6) Scream 2 - Scarier than Scream 3, but not as scary as Scream. As a sequel it was expected to be a little bit of a disappointment. And it was. But it did have many scares in it.
5) Scream - Scariest of the Scream trilogy. This movie is fine to watch alone, as long as you start off after the Scream title is shown. The first 10-20 minutes of the film are extremely scary. Do not watch the opening scene alone during the day or night unless you want to be scared out of your mind.
4.) Prom Night - (Note: Not the 1980 version. The 2008 remake) This movie was more suspensful than it was scary. The movie spent a little too much time around closets. And it was kind of a let down compared to the commercial. There were 3 things that made this movie go downhill. 1) If you here someone talking in your bedroom when you know you are alone in it you don't just act like theres nothing there. 2) You don't hide under a table with a see-through cloth 3) You don't hide under a bed when the killer knows that you hid under a bed the last time you were hiding from him.
3) Friday the Thirteenth Part 7 - The New Blood - Another victorious sequel. This movie was super scary, and still is.
2) House of Wax - (Note: Not the 1953 film. The 2005 remake) SCARY An instant fall-in-love film. This movie moves at a steady pace and it doesn't take too long to get to the main plot of the film. The ending also is somewhat of a cliffhanger, which makes it scarier.
1) THE STRANGERS - Although it got horrible reviews and the ending wasn't the greatest. This film was terribly scary. And the fact that this could really happen brought this film to life. whats more scary than three masked strangers torturing you and one other and then finally killing you?
