Top 5 Movies
by Bram Vereertbrugghen
(Belgium, Vlaams-Brabant, Halle)
These are the top 5 movies I've watched so far and I've seen a lot. I say movies because I include one here that is not a horror but too good not to be seen.
1) The Exorcist (1973): I'm guessing a lot of people will agree with me when I put this one at the top. Most other films' special effects from that era stunk. I believe the filmmakers intended shock value when they showed a young possessed girl stabbing herself with a cross while shouting obscenities. Really an instant classic.
2) Martyrs (2008): This movie belongs here and is real competition for The Exorcist. Normally, I never watch the credits, but with this one I was so stunned by the beauty of the movie that I was just too shocked and over the moon to get up and turn off the TV. Hours after that, it just kept playing in my head over and over again. You can look at it as the mental disease Stockholm-syndrome - you fall in love with your kidnapper. The movie shocked me, but because of that I started to think about nothing else. I became obsessed by it;) You now think I' m a freak probably, but it's just that good. If I get the opportunity to buy it, I most certainly will!
3) Perfume (2006): A film that takes you on a trip into the mind of Jean Baptiste Grenouille, a notorious murderer in France. You can see and feel his struggle for the scent of beautiful women, so fragile. It's pretty slow and plays more with words than with deeds. One of the most magnificent films ever made.
4) The Uninvited (2009): Really great movie that actually creeped me out when a man was struggling to step forward with a broken spine, his body hanging to the side in great pain. Unexpected plot, but copied from A Tale Of Two Sisters, which lacked some action by my opinion. The Uninvited is a must see film!
5) Eden Lake (2009): Very good movie that didn't bore me at any time. It's about a couple camping in England when disturbed by young lads. It gets you to the edge of your seat. It surprised me that I loved this movie, because by the cover, it looked like it was just another kill to kill movie (I prefer actual stories). Really superb movie!
