Us Sinners is a Highly Disturbing Gory Indie Freak Show
Us Sinners could have been better if it were just… better. The film worked but would have benefited from better acting, production and polish.

The concept of a young person driven to the edge of despair and even to the murky depths of insanity by a domineering and uber-religious mother is nothing new. Some of my best friends exacted retribution on their psychotically fundamentalist mothers after using telekinesis to kill revelers at the prom, for example…
In Us Sinners, an independent film by George Snow, the concept of repression and abuse by a puritanical parental is taken a step further – not only does the afflicted offspring suffer from painful psychological issues as a result of the divinely inspired abuse but he also becomes a sadistic sexual murderer with a voracious appetite.
Tim Connolly (Brandon Schraml) is just your typical painfully nerdy and mercilessly picked-on foreman of a commercial maintenance crew. By day he tries to get through his life while shouldering the scorn and ridicule of his co-workers and the beatings and forced laxatives by his insanely Christian mother. By night, however, Tim is in charge.

Tim, you see, is a sadistic and creative serial killer and exacts his revenge on women everywhere by treating the “hores” to choking, beatings and statues of the Virgin Mary shoved where the sun don’t shine. Then Tim falls in love… with the new employee at the cleaning company Louise (Brenda Cooney). Louise, though, doesn’t exactly return Tim’s affection. Louise would rather get decidedly oral with the cad cleaning employee Andrew (Jason Shoulders) and when Tim “peeping tom’s” the act all hell breaks loose.

Us Sinners is disturbing. Unfortunately it was also periodically annoying. Disturbing in the themes and the gore including elements of rape, impalement with religious artifacts, murder of children and incest. Annoying in the recurring goofy music, poop stains in under ware, farting and recurring insults of Tim by his stupid employees. In a nutshell I spent my time watching Us Sinners being intermittently disturbed and annoyed. This didn’t leave a ton of room for actual enjoyment.

Us Sinners seems to be trying very hard to be extremely disturbing, and in that regard the film succeeds. I have no trouble with disturbing movies but I also seek that “difficult to describe” element of enjoying the film in the process. There is not much of that part. Still, this film will have it’s audience – those that want to shriek out loud from the inherent “wrongness” of a film will find plenty to shriek at in this one.
