The Second Season of the Masters of Horror series on Showtime combines top horror writers and directors together for a second year creating some incredible (and some not so incredible) one-hour features. Valerie on the Stairs is a ghost story in classic Clive Barker Style.

Original
air date: December 21, 2006
Directed by: Mick Garris
Written by: Mick Garris
Story by: Clive Barker
Starring:
Tyron Leitso as Rob Hanisey
Clare Grant as Valerie
Synopsis: Rob Hanisey (Tyron Leitso) is
an unpublished writer in need of a place to live. Lucky for him, a room
has just become available in a local hotel that caters to unpublished
writers. Even before Rob gets settled in, things start to get freaky.
Noises in the walls, crying coming from nowhere, ghosts, and demons:
with no explanation from the other tenants. Is Valerie on the
Stairs just a figment of Rob’s imagination or,
better yet, is it a figment of someone else’s?
Thoughts: I have been a fan of Clive Barker’s stories for many years and Valerie on the Stairs has his name all over it. He starts out with an effective ghost story and goes into a twisted imaginative story with demons, torture, and gore. Any horror fan has got to love that. I also have to give Mick Garris credit. Not just anyone can translate Barker to film and Garris did pretty well in keeping with Clive Barker’s style. Valerie on the Stairs is neither one’s best effort but it is not bad…and definitely worth a second viewing. Questions or comments about Valerie on the Stairs? Contact us!
