You are correct. Many critics have pointed to the fact that Haute Tension and Intensity are very similar. There are, however, two reasons that I believe there were no lawsuits brought up was 1. It was a French production and 2. There were enough diferences, including the divergence near the end, to slip by the "plagiarism" police.
