Sometime around the early 2000's, a horror film came out about a writer that intrigued me, but I can't find the name of it.

Whatever the thirtysomething author writes comes true. So unfortunately he causes the death of his best friend while the friend is playing baseball.

There's a haunted house in a suburban neighborhood that's somehow connected but I'm not sure how.

Does anyone know the title of this film?
