I understand your concern but it is unwarranted. Here are just a few of my favorites:

Ana (Sarah Polley) from Dawn of the Dead 2004
Paquita Sanchez (Diana Penalver) from Dead Alive
Regina (Catherine Mary Stewart) from Night of the Comet
Liz (Kate Ashfield) from Shaun of the Dead

and probably the most awe inspiring of the bunch
Alice (Milla Jovovich) from the Resident Evil series

I have always been more attracted to the female that can kick butt if she has to rather the cowering, whimpering type that you begin to hope becomes a casualty so I pay a lot of attention to them in the movies. That is just me being me though.
