Young Woman Trapped in Mansion of Vampires in '70s Movie With 'Body' in Title

(Seattle, Washington, USA)

I saw a '70s movie that I believe had the words 'the body' in it's title about a young couple who are separated by a religious figure who claims to be related the girlfriend.

He invites her to his house for tea, and to discuss her ancestry. He either lives in a secluded Victorian mansion, or cathedral. Once she is there, she meets him in his office, and he tells her an outlandish story about her being related to an ancient vampiric family. Then his maid appears as if on cue, and covers her mouth with a chloroform napkin. Afterwards, she wakes up in a locked room inside of the dreaded place.

Her significant other desperately tries to locate her while she is missing, and even confronts this strange religious man but he claims she left several hours ago, eventually as the days pass he sneaks in his mansion in an valiant attempt to rescue her. In the meantime she finds out the mansion is a safe haven for ancient vampires to feast on the innocent, and have blood orgies.

Pretty brutal stuff, it's also very surreal. Reminds me slightly of what you would expect out of a David Lynch film, not to mention the cinematography, and screenplay are spellbinding.

Does any of this sound remotely familiar? Absolutely mesmerizing horror film, would love to add it to my horror movie collection. Thank you for time!

Thanks, it actually is The Body Beneath. In fact, I figured that out several weeks ago through IMDb, and purchased the film recently. Unfortunately, it turned out to be way cheesier than I remembered it! Oh the disappointment, haha... Oh well, thanks anyway!

Some of the details don't match...

...but most of it sounds like Thirst (1979), including the claim to vampiric ancestry, the farm that harvests blood and the surreal nature of the film. David Hemmings is one of the stars as a "doctor" at the farm.
