Zombie and Zombi 2 Confusion

Dear Zombie Master,

Probably a stupid question, but I just found this site (LOVE IT!) and trying to grow my 'horror knowledge' so to speak. Just wondering If "Zombie" and "Zombi 2" are the same thing? I own the movie but it's titled "Zombie" and saw that this site referred to it as "Zombi 2"... just curious

This is far from a stupid question because it confuses a lot of people.

Yes, they are the same movie. When Dario Argento re-edited Dawn of the Dead for the European release, it was entitled Zombi and was an immediate success with movie goers. Lucio Fulci, in hopes of cashing in on this, shot a new opening and closing sequence to his own film and released it as Zombi 2.

When it came to the states they dropped the 2 because it wasn't a sequel to anything. In the UK it was released as Zombie Flesh Eaters just to add further confusion.
